The Art of Recording & The Music Business

Class Objective & Information

The professional music and film industry has always been a youth driven business in a constant search for talent. Today young students have a greater desire and an ever growing opportunity to work in the entertainment business.

The goal of this program is to teach and instruct the technical aspects of recording music using the most current state-of-the-art software (Digidesign Pro-Tools). Starting with basic and fundamental procedures and advancing to an intermediate level the student will learn the applications and later understand how to apply this knowledge for recording instruments, editing and mixing music. The student will also learn types of microphones and their proper use, outboard gear and signal-flow.

The program will offer explanation and discussions about the music business, i.e., what is A&R?  What the marketing, publicity and promotion departments do? How do bands really get signed?  Also, a review and appreciation of musicians and musical styles from past decades and how they influence and affect today’s music industry.
